PBL mission statement
Yeppoon State High School is committed to providing a learning environment that upholds the values of Spirit, Teamwork, Accountability, Respect and Safety (STARS expectations). Students and staff work as a team to ensure academic and social learning outcomes are maximised for all. This is achieved by creating quality learning experiences and positive relationships, within a safe, inclusive and disciplined school environment.
What is PBL?
PBL stands for Positive Behaviour for Learning.
It provides a plan for schools to:
Be a positive place to learn
Teach students how to behave at school
Tell students when they do the right thing
Help students when they make mistakes
Work together with parents
Why is PBL implemented at Yeppoon State High School?
A growing body of research in schools show reductions in behavioural incidents, academic gains, improvements to wellbeing, a more positive school climate and increased perceptions of school safety when PBL is implemented as intended. PBL is a Multi-Tiered System of Support and provides a framework for establishing an inclusive and accessible curriculum, developing culture, highlighting student need and providing alignment in the delivery of support service.
Our students are recognised by our whole school acknowledgement reward system when they are consistently demonstrating our STARS expectations. Students receive 'free and frequent' rewards, such as Zooper doopers and hot chocolates from our school cafe. Tuckshop vouchers, skip the line vouchers, ice-cream vouchers, movie vouchers and Intersport vouchers have also been used to recognise our students who demonstrate the STARS expectations, at an exceptional level.
The below three PBL Postcards were designed by students and are used by teaching staff to inform families about the fantastic work their children have completed at school.
