Indigenous Youth Leadership Camp

The 2016 Indigenous Youth Leadership Camp (IYLC) is being held this year from Monday 27th of June to Thursday 30th of June at the University of Queensland in Brisbane.  Three students from Yeppoon State High School  were fortunate enough to secure a place at UQ over the school holidays to participate in this program. These students are: Kaitlyn Hughes, Lani Rai Querro and Adrieann Newcombe.
This camp is a fantastic opportunity for students to experience university life at a residential college and look at future options that they may be interested in. IYLC is student organised and run, which involves a range of activities to further both the Mentees’ and Mentors’ personal and professional skills.
Some of the activities include:
·        Public speaking
·        Understanding values
·        Indigenous history
·        Problem solving and Adventure Based Learning
·        Resume writing and interview techniques
·        Confidence and leadership training
·        Tertiary Education options and future pathways
IYLC assist young people to develop a strong leadership capacity and assist in creating the next generation of leaders for our world.
