Yeppoon State High operates under five core values: respect, participation, safety, honesty, responsibility.
These are at the heart of all that we do, and our goal is to help students develop a range of academic and personal strategies that will enable them to become active, informed and responsible citizens.
Our school and students have a positive record in achieving high academic goals with regularly students gaining OPs in the 1 to 5 range, and the vast majority of students who apply for University placements receive offers. We have large numbers of students placed in School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships in the local area, negotiated by staff, parents and employers to fit student needs. The majority of our Yr 12 students graduate with at least one Vocational Qualification at the end of Year 12, completed here at school.
Yeppoon State High has a Performance Culture developed over several years, by students, staff and supportive parents. Our high achieving school band has won many awards at State level and is regularly sought to perform at community events. Each year our students are involved in either presentation of a School Musical or entry into Rock Eisteddfod in a two year cycle. This allows those who excel in performing arts to develop their talents fully.
As with many schools, we promote students participation and involvement in a wide range of sporting pursuits. They have involvement, supported by committed staff and parents, in interschool competition when in season.
During 2008, our school commenced a School Wide Positive Behaviour Scheme to identify strategies after engaging students, staff and our wider community for input. Following initial consultation, the guiding committee and students developed the underpinning values of RAMS.
R – Responsibility
A – Active participation
M – Manners
S – Safety
These are well accepted in our school community by our students and staff and will further develop as the SWPBS progresses.
Our school has many other very worthwhile programs, and we work closely with the local State Schools in the Cap Coast Cluster, to give the best possible life options for the school age students and their families in our area.
Please contact our school office if you require further information.
